CareerBuilder just acquired a company with a funny name. After taking a 60 percent stake in Textkernel back in 2015, CareerBuilder went all-in this week and gobble-up the Amsterdam-based technology that specializes in semantic search. It seems like a strange move for a company that recently partnered with Google to power its job search functionality, in fact one could guess Careerbuilder should be moving away from a solution like Textkernel, but the job board stalwart says no.
In fact, CareerBuilder will keep leveraging Google for search and find ways to integrate Textkernel in new ways. The acquisition also serves as a talent grab for a company that’s been bleeding employees since Apollo took over in 2017. Textkernel employs roughly 120 professionals, many of whom are engineer, and all will be joining the CareerBuilder team. “The acquisition of Textkernel and deeper investment in AI is a part of our overarching strategy to create the most advanced solutions for our customers,” said CareerBuilder Irina Novoselsky.
“And our combined data science, R&D, and product development teams are already fast at work to create the next-generation technology and tools that bring qualified candidates to jobs faster and easier, even in a tight employment market like the one we’re in now.”
