A Prayer for Texas

A Prayer for Texas

As a native Houstonian, now living in Austin, I feel beyond helpless.  I offer up a prayer, mashed together from social media posts, texts and thoughts over the last few days from my family, friends, HR pros, colleagues, neighbors and fellow Texans.

Now I lay me down to sleep.

While the sound of rain used to comfort, it now is terrorizing

Houstonians need the rain to stop.  Days without sleep takings its toll

There are no words to describe the sadness

It’s surreal – we’re hearing helicopters and air boats around us

And it is still raining

I pray the Lord my soul to keep.

So proud of the courage and spirit of helpfulness exhibited

Houston is resilient and we will do our part

During these days, my faith in humanity has been restored over and over

Today we wait for the waters to go down so we can rush out and help our neighbors

I’m watching an entire community rally together to search for the stranded, offer refuge to those without, and truly show us what it should look like to love others

Watch and guard me through the night.

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you

Thank you to a stranger, Jose, who rescued us

God bless all of the citizens of this great nation, as we stand together to help those in need

Hunker down.  We’ve got this

Volunteers plucked people from homes all night.  The “Cajun Navy” brought boats

Wake me in the morning light.

Grateful to you Lord.  Please stop the rain.  Surprise us with the sun tomorrow

They need help, but are not helpless

What we see going on now in Houston is the change we need as a nation

I know my city will recover and flourish

Heart, Heroic, Humble, Honorable, Helpful – Houston

As HR leaders in Houston and beyond work to provide guidance, resources and support for their “company families” – while taking care of their own – we must join to help.
